Pivot is the hot word right now for all businesses, and for good reason. Every business owner that I have spoken with lately knows that if there has ever been a time to make a shift, IT’S RIGHT NOW.
This is also easier said than done. I get that, and that is why I am so compelled to help you make the short-term changes you may need to make right now in order to have long-term business success.
I know it isn’t that you are reluctant to pivot or shift. It’s that you are probably wondering what to do. You may be feeling lost, stuck, or just plain scared of doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.
It comes down to this: YOUR MINDSET. Listen, you’ve heard this before, but your mindset truly is the driving force behind the success or failure of really anything that you go after in life.
Knowing where you are in regards to your mindset is the first step in taking the action that will help you make the pivot you need to make in your business RIGHT NOW.
Todd Herman recently spoke about the three types of entrepreneurs who are responding to the shift that is happening now within our economy.
The first type of entrepreneur is, well, not responding at all.
This person is totally stuck and is not taking any action. She may be experiencing depression, anxiety, fear, and feel as if things are out of control.
If this is you, it’s okay. The majority of businesses are still in this place at this moment.
The second type of entrepreneur is willing to make the moves and the adjustments necessary. The problem, though? No direction.
No direction leads to zero confidence, and so maybe you’re caught up in doing all the little things or just the bare minimum. Nothing is sticking, so-to-speak. But at least you’re doing something, right?
I’m sorry, but this gets you nowhere quick, fast, and in a hurry.
The third and final type of entrepreneur is seeing opportunity, finding solutions, and making moves. These people make up less than 9 percent of the business owners out there.
These are the ones who refuse to be a victim. They are pivoting, shifting, taking action. They won’t be caught on the sidelines, despite not knowing exactly what to do.
Hopefully, you have diagnosed yourself as one of the three types of entrepreneurs mentioned above. And whatever category that you find yourself in, know this: you are not alone, and there are ways to make the shift needed in your business.

If you’re feeling lost and unsure of what to sell these days, it’s because you don’t feel valuable. You don’t have an offer that people are needing right now; and therefore, you have no confidence and no plan.
The reason behind all of this is simple. You want to make sure that what you offer is good and helpful and worthy. I know that’s what you want. Now is the time to do the right thing and sell in a way that is thoughtful, mindful, and sensitive. But you also know that opportunities are out there. Don’t let them pass you by.
It’s time to unpack the mindset dangers and the fears that are holding you back from making the pivot in your business. And once you know, you know. Then you can begin to shift accordingly. Because trust me on this: Your customers desperately want you to show up for them.
This fear isn’t being talked about openly, but it hurts, especially if you have worked for years creating content. Do you feel as if you have lost your role of leadership somewhere along the way? Are you not being seen as someone who can help others? Are you losing opportunities to connect with your audience?
I would dare say that there is somewhat of a chasm growing between you and your audience. You’ve lost the communication and the back and forth banter that once felt easy.
It’s time to pivot. Start by shifting your content. Take mindful actions to re-connect authentically with your community, and meet them where they are right now.
Declining sales is a hard thing to discuss. But when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. If you are feeling this danger right now, here’s hope. Many businesses are thriving right now because they are in alignment with what people need right now.
Maybe you feel guilty about your offer. Maybe it’s a lavish service, and you don't feel good about your offer at the present moment. Listen to yourself. That is your intuition, your spirit, your inner wisdom talking to you, and you need to perk up and pay attention.
If you have offers that aren’t the right thing to sell right now in this season, it’s just a small construction bump. My suggestion is to look at your offers differently. What are your customers’ greatest needs right now?
Think of your services and your guidance as a map of your customer’s journey. In the past, you had everything planned out, pitfalls included. That's still happening right now.
You are still responsible for taking your customers to wellness or a marketing plan or to speaking on stage or to writing a book. You only need to develop a short-term detour for your customer. Whatever their journey, create a NEW path that brings them to the same destination.
Nobody wants to sound like a marketing sleaze bucket or be “that person” when our world is in such a precarious state. There is no grand marketing strategy to share here.
Just call the elephant out in the room. Tell your customers straight up that you are changing things for a little while because things are different. Don't pretend like the issues aren't there, but don’t just dwell on the problems either.
People want to hear from mindful, authentic, full-hearted leaders who are giving them solutions. Talk about how you're now doing things differently to lead your customers to the light on the other end of this tunnel.
Take your communication and your thoughts and your marketing and pivot in a way that yields personal connections. This the very best thing you can be doing right now.
My goal is to fill you up again with creativity and encouragement because you are an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are the most important people right now! We are the most creative, disruptive, tenacious, tough, unstoppable people on earth!
You have everything you need to create a solution that you feel good about. Your business can be the life raft that people are needing right now. Dive in and think how to shift just for a little bit.
